The Washington Update – May 30

President Trump Releases His FY 2026 Budget

At 5 PM (Eastern) on Friday, May 30, President Trump released his FY 2026 budget. Here’s a quick summary of funding levels for DHS programs:

  • U.S. Fire Administration: $64.166 million
  • Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program: $324 million
  • SAFER Grant Program: $324 million
  • Urban Areas Security Initiative: $415.5 million
  • State Homeland Security Grant Program: $351 million

Congress will have to consider the funding for these programs as part of the annual appropriations process.

The House and Senate are in recess.

Even though the House did not include the High-Rise Fire Sprinkler Incentive Act (H.R. 173/S. 504) in the Big Beautiful Bill Act (H.R. 1), we can still try to add the bill to the Senate. The bill would create a tax incentive for high rise building owners to retrofit their buildings with fire sprinklers. The bill even would include high rise residential buildings. Please contact your Senators and ask them to add the High-Rise Fire Sprinkler Incentive Act to President Trump’s tax legislation in the Senate.
